My approach

In an atmosphere of acceptance, understanding, patience, and clarity, I am here to support your relationship with yourself. Using tools such as mindfulness, insight, somatic, and narrative approaches, I create a space where the many parts of you are welcome. Goal setting is a collaborative process and therapy can be long or short term depending on your needs. I deeply support the listening process, as well as the interplay between individual needs and relationship needs. I have a particular orientation towards meaning and purpose, and we will draw from your values as a means of integrating both difficult and inspiring experiences.

I specialize in working with relationships, which may take the form of individual or couples therapy. Setting boundaries, cultivating effective communication tools, learning healthy ways of having conflict, and identifying the various ways we each give and receive love, acknowledgment and support are all aspects of the work we can do together.

We will begin with listening and goal setting. Then the process of change moves to curiosity, seeing, and cultivating acceptance. Then together we identify the small steps that make way for the larger changes to organically occur. We will balance the hard work with your strengths and connections to experiences that let you know you are ok; you are exactly where you need to be.

Finding the right psychotherapist is a very personal process. Therapy is not just about the rightness of a therapists' approach or their training; it is about how you feel in the room with the therapist. It is about how you feel as you sit on the couch and look out the window, smell the air or take in the space all around you. It is about how you feel with this other person in the room with you, being available and listening. It is about finding the right therapist for you.

I encourage you to trust yourself in this process. If you would like to learn more about how we might work together, I invite you to contact me for a free 15 minute phone conversation or to schedule a first session. 510.775.2424 or email: contact@carriegraypsychotherapy.com.

Psychotherapy is an opportunity to enter into experiences,

turning them over like river stones

and finding new meaning,

new ways of relating to events of life and to ourselves.
